Intellectual Property Law in Germany – Overview and Recent Developments

IP Law covers a broad range of legal topics, such as Trademarks, Designs, Patents, Copyrights and the Law of Unfair Competition. These fields are not an integral part of the legal education and not subject to the state examinations, but they are quite relevant in virtually all fields of the economy in the German, European and International context, within the framework of German Laws and a number of European Regulations and International Treaties. Every company has to take care of these IP issues as a startup when entering the market or as an established company when enforcing existing rights or developing new ideas.

Askan Deutsch has been active in this field for more than 20 years and advises many clients from Germany, Europe, UK and the US. He will provide a short overview on the core fields of IP Law in Germany and give insights into his daily work. As a large portion of this work is in English in this rather international context, the lecture will be held in English.
