Interview
‘I find it particularly motivating when completed projects bring about a noticeable improvement in day-to-day working life.‘

Interview with Markus Mäckelmann, Business Services & Solutions team

Markus Mäckelmann describes how practical solutions and close collaboration shape day-to-day life at FPS. From starting out as a working student to taking on the role of Information Security Officer and Legal Engineer – an insight into structures, security and efficiency.

How long have you been with FPS?

I joined the Hamburg office in October 2019 as a working student whilst studying for my Bachelor’s degree in Business Informatics. I first came into contact with colleagues from Frankfurt during a cross-office IT project. Since September 2023, I have been working full-time at the Frankfurt office as part of the Business Services and Solutions team, alongside starting my part-time Master’s degree; I am currently working remotely from Hamburg and will be based at the Munich office from April this year.

What tasks inspire you?

I enjoy tasks most that have a positive impact on all employees. These can include, for example, process adjustments or automations that make day-to-day work easier.

What technical skills are particularly important in your job?

It’s a combination of business management and information technology. I studied business informatics, which covers the fundamentals of both. In my view, excellent communication skills are also essential for the job.

How would you describe working with the lawyers at FPS?

The collaboration is very practical and solution-oriented. In my role as Information Security Officer and Legal Engineer, I see myself as the interface between legal work, technology and security. My aim is to create solutions that are both secure and practical for the day-to-day work of the lawyers.

How does FPS support you in your professional development and long-term career progression?

At the moment, through a high degree of flexibility. FPS has enabled me to complete my Master’s degree in ‘Cyber Security Management’ alongside my job. I’m currently in the final stages of the course and am writing my Master’s thesis.

What motivates you personally in your day-to-day work?

I find it particularly motivating when projects bring about a noticeable improvement in day-to-day work. It’s always very motivating when a solution I’ve worked on is actually put to use and makes processes safer or more efficient as a result. That shows the impact my own work has on the firm.
